This
year's students
There
are 84 students registered for one of the Institute's four degrees,
and as in previous years they are a very international group, representing
20 countries: Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, France,
Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Slovakia, Spain,
Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, the US and the
UK. Welcome to everyone!
Welcome
evening
All
students of the Institute are invited to attend the School of Advanced
Study's Welcome evening on Thursday 7 October from 5.00-6.30 pm in the
Chancellor's Hall, Senate House.
Research
training
-
The
Institute for the Study of the Americas offers a Research
training programme for any student in the UK who is enrolled in
a social science or humanities research degree examining an aspect
of the Americas.
-
The
School of Advanced Study offers a Research
training programme for students enrolled in an MPhil or PhD within
an Institute of the School.
Student
intranet
A
range of information for students of the Institute, such as reading lists
and past exam papers, can be found on the student
intranet. To get access to the intranet, students can collect a password
from the student administration office.
Student
representation
On Wednesday 20 October there will be a meeting to nominate
candidates to elect the student representatives on the Institute's Staff-Student
Liaison Committee and Library Committee. The meeting will be held at 1.15pm
in Room 12, number 35 Tavistock Square.
Graduation
The
next Graduation Ceremony for the School of Advanced Study will be held
on Friday 3 December at 4 pm. Judge Baltasar Garzón,
who sought to extradite Pinochet from London to Spain for human rights
abuses, will receive the degree of Doctor of Literature honoris causa
at the Ceremony.
Note: Students who
commenced their degree in either the Institute of Latin American Studies
or the Institute of United States Studies, and have now completed requirements
for that degree, will graduate from their original institute at the December
2004 graduation ceremony.
Latin
American Council of International and Comparative Law (COLADIC)
The
Latin American Council of International and Comparative Law (COLADIC in
its acronym in Spanish), is an academic association devoted to stimulating
research and networking of students and young professionals through academic
activities.
COALDIC was created
in 1994 and has come to play an important role in Latin American student
affairs. The association has attained a prominent international recognition
which has enabled it to establish co-operative links with several institutions,
a list of which may be found on its website.
COLADIC’s activities
include hosting an annual seminar and virtual discussion groups, administering
and participating in seven international moot courts, and publishing an
international annual journal and a number of bulletins. All these have
provided a wide range of academic opportunities for COLADIC to expand
its benefits to a growing number of beneficiaries.
Students, academics
and professionals are welcome to join the association or participate in
COLADIC’s scholarly arena. For more information about the history,
