Welcome to everyone!

Welcome evening
All students of the Institute are invited to attend the School of Advanced Study's Welcome evening on Thursday 7 October from 5.00-6.30 pm in the Chancellor's Hall, Senate House.

Research training

  • The Institute for the Study of the Americas offers a Research training programme for any student in the UK who is enrolled in a social science or humanities research degree examining an aspect of the Americas.
  • The School of Advanced Study offers a Research training programme for students enrolled in an MPhil or PhD within an Institute of the School.

Student intranet
A range of information for students of the Institute, such as reading lists and past exam papers, can be found on the student intranet. To get access to the intranet, students can collect a password from the student administration office.

Student representation
On Wednesday 20 October there will be a meeting to nominate candidates to elect the student representatives on the Institute's Staff-Student Liaison Committee and Library Committee. The meeting will be held at 1.15pm in Room 12, number 35 Tavistock Square.

Graduation
The next Graduation Ceremony for the School of Advanced Study will be held on Friday 3 December at 4 pm. Judge Baltasar Garzón, who sought to extradite Pinochet from London to Spain for human rights abuses, will receive the degree of Doctor of Literature honoris causa at the Ceremony.

Note: Students who commenced their degree in either the Institute of Latin American Studies or the Institute of United States Studies, and have now completed requirements for that degree, will graduate from their original institute at the December 2004 graduation ceremony.

Latin American Council of International and Comparative Law (COLADIC)
The Latin American Council of International and Comparative Law (COLADIC in its acronym in Spanish), is an academic association devoted to stimulating research and networking of students and young professionals through academic activities.

COALDIC was created in 1994 and has come to play an important role in Latin American student affairs. The association has attained a prominent international recognition which has enabled it to establish co-operative links with several institutions, a list of which may be found on its website.

COLADIC’s activities include hosting an annual seminar and virtual discussion groups, administering and participating in seven international moot courts, and publishing an international annual journal and a number of bulletins. All these have provided a wide range of academic opportunities for COLADIC to expand its benefits to a growing number of beneficiaries.

Students, academics and professionals are welcome to join the association or participate in COLADIC’s scholarly arena. For more information about the history, activities, and accomplishments of the association and its supporters see its website: www.coladic.org or e-mail: fargueta@gmail.com.
