Update on Library Moves, Tuesday 02 August 2011

It has now been agreed that the re-location, and concomitant temporary closure of the Latin American and US Collections (currently on the 4th floor of the north block of Senate House) will now take place after Monday 5 September. The provisional dates for the relocations of these collections are as follows:

US Collection: 6 September until 9 September

Latin American Collection: 9 September until 14 September.

Although these dates are provisional, the result of this agreement is that the US and Latin American collections will NOT move prior to the Master’s students’ dissertation deadline of 5 September 2011 (at midday). For the avoidance of doubt, the dissertation deadline has not changed.

Nevertheless, a number of collections cognate to the study of the US and Latin America are in the process of being relocated during August and early September and further details on these moves will be posted here. (This blog is managed and updated by the staff of Senate House Libraries).

Library Moves - Summary

The Library is currently engaged in a four month programme which will culminate in the re-opening of the newly refurbished library in its entirety on Floors 4-7 of Senate House in time for the new academic session. When the moves are completed, the temporary library facilities in the Small Hall and the North Block areas will be discontinued.

The Latin American and Caribbean, United States Studies and Commonwealth Studies collections will all be located on the 6th Floor of the Senate House Library, once moves are completed. Access and all service points will be on the 4th Floor South Block.

Moves of these collections are currently scheduled for August. Library staff have been consulting student representatives on issues of timing and continuity of service. The schedule of moves for this will need to be co-ordinated with building contractors also working in parts of the same area. This is currently being discussed with Estates and the removals company and more information should be available soon.

Updates and news on moves will be available online here.
